Hmm I either have, or had, the Mars books by Kim Stanley Robinson. I will look for them and let you know.

Are they as good as the reviews say? I’m in the middle of a Gibson book and it’s making me crave literate sci fi.

I read them some years ago now, but do remember liking them. The first one was really good. The second two had some silliness but were good in their own respect. Red, Green, Blue Mars being the titles to show the evolution of the planet from arid to fully established. I am biased when it comes to the Sci Fi genre and generally tend to find something good in most of them.
Ben Bova had a Mars book that was good too.
