Exercise going well so far

So far I seem to be adjusting ok to the diet change and rigorous exercise. I can’t quite figure out what all I can eat but I ordered a couple of books from Amazon to help with that. I’ve stopped putting sugar in my coffee and have been eating salad and beans and veggie burgers and hot dogs (no buns, wheat bread). I can already tell that I’m going to miss pasta a lot. I still need to figure out what to do about breakfast, oatmeal is good but I don’t have time to cook it in the morning. I am thinking cheerios is the way to go.

meanwhile the exercise has been going much better than expected. I can’t do sit-ups or pushups because of the chest muscle, but I have been running 2 miles every night and so far my knees and ankles are fine with it and it hasn’t been hard to keep a nice pace. My chest hurts after the run but only minor, a dull throb, the sharp spikes are gone. I think I’m on the mend on that front.

I’m a little worried about the pace I put myself on so I think Sunday will be a day of rest. Ultimately I want to be on a daily regimen but I don’t want to push to hard and hurt myself. Two winters ago when I first started running I managed to do something to the arch of my foot that kept me from running for about a month, then I got back into it and promptly strained my knee that kept me off the treadmill for a month. So I’m cautious. I’m also thinking about getting a bike, because that will give me the cardiovascular workout I need without putting as much strain on my joints.

Bored yet? I can prattle on and on about all this but I think I’ll leave it at this for now. More as things develop.

Oh, yeah. And what the hell am I going to do about booze! No more beer?!? No more red wine? Shite! Anyone who knows anything about what diabetics drink, speak up!

a: biking rules. running is terrible for your joints. (mine at least)

    Yuck! Michelob! Damn.

Actually I have been reading lots and though controversial, some studies suggest 1-2 glasses of red wine a day are beneficial despite the sugars because of their effect on cholestoral. I am going to see a nutritionist ultimately who will help me figure some of this stuff out. For now I am drinking a little red wine with my meals, less than a glass. Who knows, maybe I have to become a wine snob šŸ˜‰

No more drunken dave though. Guess I had my fun, now I have to be mr sober.

My dad does the cheerios thing. I don’t think you have to abandon all of lifes little pleasures, merely curb them a bit. You will learn your own personal do’s and dont’s over time.

Did I mention that Robotron is working flawlessly? Martose is coming up the weekend of the 26th to play.
