Friday fun: Heavy Weapons
Hosted over on Kongregate and a great 80’s inspired arcade blast from the past, Heavy Weapons takes a dash of Robotron’s 8-way shooting, a bit of Geometry Wars‘ small but scrolley arenas and the ‘money to buy more powerful weapons’ of a million little shooters and pours it into a fun, challenging little flash game. There’s nothing deep going on here: shoot or be shot, gather the goodies so you can buy better shooters, lather, rinse, repeat, or die trying. A video clip is below, or you can just go check it out yourself.

This is what a server death looks like
This is what killed my webserver a couple of weeks ago. The black plastic rectangle is the mounting framework for the cpu cooler, which is held by spring-loaded clips flush against the cpu. The plastic pegs which held the mounting framework to the motherboard snapped on one side, which caused the cooler to separate from the cpu and in turn caused the cpu to burn out, probably taking the motherboard with it. Anyone want the machine? $20 and it’s yours, including some RAM and a few other random parts, including a nice small form factor Biostar Ideq case very similar to this one.
