Something for the next AGCW

Now here’s something cool to consider for our next AGCW. It’s a raft some enterprising folks built from 2 liter soda bottles, duct tape, and scrap wood. Imagine this as our own floating platform off the coast of our site next summer. It would be a bit easier to build than the kayaks built from tarps and saplings I linked to earlier in the year, too.

An amusing aside also – I checked the link from make, was scoping out the photos and suddenly realized hey, that’s the Skidmore campus where I work! It’s a small world, even on the internets ๐Ÿ˜‰ The pond they have their raft race on is one I bring Soolin to often.

Start saving 2 litre bottles now. You could build a battle barge.
Man would it suck if the thing came apart though. All those plastic bottles floating around needing to be rounded up.
Not too mention the inevitable discarding of them at the end. I think the marina people would be pissed if you jammed a 2 litre bottle raft in their dumpster.

Here is one problem, nothing I drink comes in 2 litre bottles. In terms of it coming apart, that would suck, but the thing is made of duct tape, it would take a meteor strike to dislodge them.

Or maybe a mike lord canon ball ๐Ÿ˜‰

In terms of getting rid of it, I was figuring it would emerge intact from the experience and could go off to the dump or recycling.

Oh and to clarify, I was really thinking of this thing more as a dock anchored out in the lake, a platform to swim and dive off of. If it were a little bigger than the one they built in the photos I linked to it would hold a couple of people comfortably.
