Truth in advertising

Or not. Seen those eye-catching new tv ads for Apple’s iPod, with the folks getting their groove on in silhouette on a bright candy colored background? Note how spastically they rattle their ipod around. I challenge anyone who owns any brand hard drive based mp3 player to violently jiggle their player around like they do in those commercials. I guarantee what you’ll have after a few minutes of that is one dead music player. It’s really kind of absurd. It’s a shame too because on one level the ads are actually pretty cool.

the hard drive is spinning like 2% of the time. the other 98% of the time, it is parked safely. it spins up, loads a few songs and spins down.

i rode my bike and emmets scooter regularly with my ipod (i dont anymore, so dont start with me) and niether of those is a smooth ride. my pod is still just fine. and before you say that their dancing is more jiggy than my bike, i would remind you that my bike is older than my sister.

go read the ipod forums or on usenet and come back and try and make the same case. It is a well known fact that jogging with your ipod will kill it. Your own sister even knows this. Ride with yours on your bike if you want. Eventually it will die.

I wonder which sister because if its Kirsten…DAMN THAT’S AN OLD BIKE!

Also, I didn’t know it was bad to jog with it, Kir informed me last weekend.
