So…sorry for the long span between posts. I’ve been going through some health stuff. Things seem to be stabilized at this point, now it’s just a matter of adjusting to all the changes, which is mostly what I’ve been up to for the past month. I promise to get back to my regularly scheduled allotment of snarky posts now 😉
For those who are curious as to the details. Yes, as it turns out I am a full-blown type II diabetic. I’ve been put on a drug regimen to try and help control my out of control blood sugars and my awful cholesterol problems. I’ve also started exercising like a madman, at least 2 miles/45 minutes a night, generally a little more than that. I’ve lost over 18 pounds in less than 7 weeks. This from a guy who wasn’t really fat to begin with, it amazes me. I’ve also virtually eliminated carbohydrates from my diet aside from those I take in from green vegetables, and of course I’ve removed all sweets/sugars including almost all naturally occurring sugars. I’ve learned a boatload about food, food and body chemistry, food labels, food yada yada yada. I’ve been fighting with the doctors, mainly because as a group they are schizophrenic in their understanding of diabetes and appropriate treatments – if you stuck 10 doctors in a room and asked them what an appropriate blood sugar level is for me you would get 3-4 different answers. It’s amazingly frustrating, so the end result is I’ve mostly taken it upon myself to educate myself as best I can and draw my own conclusions.
This doesn’t particularly please my doctors.
The worst aspects of it are the lack of variety in my diet – about 50% of what I eat now is green leafy vegetables and they get old. Also I am basically always hungry. I also feel unhealthy most of the time.
On the positive side is the weight loss. It’s simply amazing. Soon I’ll be back to my old college weight of around 175, I figure in another 2 weeks or so if everything continues apace. Of course this means a new wardrobe for me but I’ll take the change 😉 Also my digestion is worlds better than it used to be. EVERYONE ought to eat more fibre, you would be amazed at what it can do for you. Another positive is that some things I have been able to add back into my diet are awesome, things like broiled steaks in particular but basically all of the proteins I eat (meats, shellfish, fish, soy, dairy) are delicious.
So. Enough on this subject, I’ve been obsessing about it to a level you cannot imagine but in this space I’m going to try and drop the subject from now on, aside from maybe posting a picture or two of me in my new sleek form.
About damn time too !!! 😉
At least you are back in time for a severe spanking next week. My triumphant return to the net via broadband shall be heralded by Rocket launchers and scream of agony of the dying as I run them down in my jeep !!!
