alternates to trash: 1. give some of ’em to a child care center where they can be tossed into a room full of 6-year-olds to take apart and reassemble, just as we cousins were given a big ben windup clock with a broken spring to “fix.” never worked, but we learned a lot about tools and a clock’s “hardware” in the process. 2. hey, i cooled the above-the-head hot air in my kitchen for years and for pennies with one of those little back-of-the-box hard-drive fans. etc. etc.
Funny. I considered pulling the fans out of those machines because I recently saw plans for a wind power array constructed from them, but it was too much trouble and also those machines all ran 24×7 for years meaning the fans were likely in poor shape. As to handing those over to 6 year olds….that sheet metal is sharp as hell, I’ve cut myself badly working inside computer cases several times over the years. Prolly too dangerous for kiddies.
